Sustainability

Eco-awareness and sustainability feel as natural as the landscape at The Crossings, which effortlessly combines inspiring architecture and modern amenities with a reverence for the delicate beauty of the Balcones Canyonland Preserve that surrounds it. From land and water conservation efforts to the use of recycled materials throughout the property, greening and eco-friendly principles guide very facet of the resort's design and operation, minimizing its environmental footprint while maximizing human health and well-being.

Construction of The Crossings utilized recycled materials indoors and out, renewable resources, and energy-efficient utility systems, many of which were acquired locally. Energy consumption, water use and air pollution are limited with a wide range of tactics, including the strategic placement of high-performance windows to maximize natural ventilation and lighting; energy-efficient heating/cooling systems that reduce energy use; and low-flow fixtures on all water sources. Only 34 of the site's 210 acres are developed, while the rest of the property has been left in its pristine natural condition, with native vegetation and wildlife abundant within the undisturbed landscape.

The Crossings is devoted to eco-friendly techniques throughout its daily operation, including waste minimization, reuse and recycling of all possible materials, composting, local and organic food sourcing, recycled paper product usage, and sustainability education. As a testament to The Crossings' devotion to environmental stewardship, the resort is eligible for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in the Existing Building category, and anticipates a Gold ranking.
