Intentional Health Workshop Coming to The Crossings in January 2008!

December 3, 2007

We caught up with Peter Schroeder recently to find out more about his life, his work, and his thoughts on starting fresh in 2008. Join Schroeder at The Crossings for his Intentional Health workshop, where he will work with you to develop your own plan to pursue optimal health in a way you can not only live with but also love!

What is intentional health, and how does it differ from the way you observe people generally approach the task of getting and staying healthy?

Intentional Health is about proactive living—grabbing the pen and writing your own script! You participate in forming your Guidelines for Life. It's not about eating 7 small meals a day or doing 200 sit-ups like Boot Camp. You design a life that you love!

Why did you choose life coaching as a career?

I feel everyone's good at something, and everyone gets joy/satisfaction/fulfillment from relating to others in certain ways. I love being inspired by others—through books, music, etc. I love inspiring others to enjoy this gift of Life. Coaching is a way to help others out of frustration or confusion and into a clear vision, to define their priorities, and develop a plan that makes their life as rewarding as possible.

Does your love for music figure into your Intentional Health approach? If so, how?

The only connection I can make is that I call my music Intentional Music, because I write songs that promote living with intention, or describe the pitfalls of living without intention. So, both use intention.

It's almost time for making New Years' resolutions. Why do you think that the resolution to become fit fails for so many people so much of the time?

This is an easy one. Everyone's different, with their own capabilities and their own level of will. Health and fitness programs are typically written by superb athletes or people with 6% body fat. The average individual might try to live up to those ideals, but it's only a matter of time before they give up. Another reason for failure is that many programs are unrealistic: Eat 6 small meals a day...who does that? Look in a mirror and say, "I am fit!" Puh-leeze! New Years is a great time to make resolutions, and if the resolutions are realistic and the motivation remains strong, success is possible for anyone.

What is the number one fitness- or health-related resolution that you would advise people to make in 2008?

Start with your mind—the way you think, the words you say to yourself. Your thinking controls everything, and you control your thoughts. Resolve to think kind. Resolve to think consistent with your higher values. Spend moments every day thinking thoughts that elevate your mood and open your heart. You control the valve that adjusts the Light in your heart—you can keep it dim, or you can turn it up and let your Light shine brightly!

What is your guiltiest, most unhealthy habit?

My guiltiest, most unhealthy habit is negative self-talk. I allow thoughts of fear, doubt, and worry to enter my mind, and distract me from my path. I know it's a waste of energy, yet I engage in it from time to time.

Why should people sign up for your workshop?

If we're fortunate, there comes a time in life when we say, "I'm ready!" Ready, at least, to look at a new way. We've been neglecting ourselves long enough. Or, we've been doing "pretty good," and we're ready for "amazing"! Either way, the feeling is right, and the opportunity is there.

People should sign up because January is a great time to start a new chapter, turn a new corner. IH is fun, highly motivating and inspiring, and will put Passion, Joy, and Fulfillment in people's lives! It's about health, and it's about enjoying life, at its most rewarding! And The Crossings is a beautiful setting to raise one's love of life! Plus, the price is a steal!
